Mirwaiz pays tribute to Dastgeer Sahab (RA) | KNO

Srinagar, December 18 (KNO): On the annual Urs of Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA), Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema chief and Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq has paid tributes to one of the top Islamic missionary and spiritual saint. Mirwaiz in a statement issued to KNIO said the Sufi saint had dedicated his life for Islam and attracted people toward the peaceful religion by spreading the true message of Islam and by playing the role of a social reformer. Terming him a spiritual saint who worked with dedication for the spread of Islam, Mirwaiz who has been put under house arrest from last few days said, “Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani, popularly known as Dastgeer Sahab, Peeran-e-Peer and Gaus-u-Azam, laid stress on humanity, kindness, brotherhood and social service, for which the presented generations Muslims were indebted to him.” Stressing that one the hand, Dastgeer Sahab, with his missionary zeal and sermons, attracted tens of thousands of people toward Islam, he said on the other hand, with his social reforms, he helped in creating a moral and just society as a result of which, centuries after his death, he was still being remembered world over and his teachings attracting all the more attention. Suggesting that paying tributes to Gaus-ul-Azam and celebrating his Urs would only be meaningful when Muslims follow his religious mission, Mirwaiz said Muslim Kashmiri like the great spiritual saint needed to believe in the oneness of the Almighty Allah and rededicate themselves for the betterment of Islam and Ummah and take stock of their lives. Urging the people of Kashmir particularly the Muslim youth, parents and family heads to come forward and shoulder responsibilities in shaping our society in accordance with Islamic teachings and values, Mirwaiz appealed them for helping cleanse the Kashmiri society off social evils and un-Islamic practices.(KNO)
